Identify Tasks You Should Keep or Delegate

Delegate and Elevate: Take Back Your Time

Time is one of the most valuable assets for any leader. However, many business owners spend too much time doing work that drains energy instead of focusing on the work that drives growth.

The Delegate and Elevate framework helps you identify where your time should go by organizing tasks into four clear categories. This creates better focus, stronger leadership, and more effective delegation across the business.

Understanding the Four Quadrants

The goal is simple: spend more time in the work you love and where you perform at your highest level. At the same time, reduce the time spent on tasks that create frustration, inefficiency, or burnout.

Love / Great

These are the tasks you love doing and are exceptionally good at. This is your unique ability zone—the work that gives you energy, creates the highest value, and should remain your primary focus.

Examples may include strategic leadership, relationship building, vision casting, coaching key people, or high-level decision-making.

Like / Good

These are tasks you enjoy and perform well, but they may not be the highest and best use of your time. While you can do them effectively, they may eventually be delegated as the business grows.

This area often includes management tasks, planning, approvals, or specialized operational oversight.

Don’t Like / Good At

These are responsibilities you can handle well, but they drain your energy. Many leaders get stuck here because they are competent, but these tasks often create unnecessary bottlenecks.

This is usually the first area where strategic delegation should happen. Removing these tasks creates immediate capacity for higher-value work.

Don’t Like / Not Good At

These tasks should be delegated, automated, or eliminated as quickly as possible. They create frustration, slow progress, and prevent leaders from operating effectively.

Administrative work, repetitive tasks, unnecessary approvals, or low-value operational work often fall into this category.

Why Delegate and Elevate Matters

Without intentional delegation, leaders become the bottleneck of the business. Teams wait for decisions, growth slows down, and burnout becomes inevitable.

By using this framework consistently, you create stronger accountability, better use of talent, and more freedom to focus on the work only you should be doing.

How to Use the Delegate and Elevate Tool

Start by listing your weekly responsibilities. Then place each task into the correct quadrant based on two questions: Do you enjoy it? Are you great at it?

From there, identify which responsibilities should stay with you and which should be delegated to the right people, documented into processes, or removed entirely.

Build a Business That Does Not Depend on You for Everything

Delegation is not about losing control. It is about creating clarity, empowering your team, and allowing yourself to lead where you create the most value.

The more time you spend in your Love / Great quadrant, the stronger your leadership becomes—and the healthier your business grows.
