In previous posts, I’ve talked about the importance of aligning profit with purpose and building a long-term vision for impact. But the question I often hear is, how do we ensure we stay true to our mission in the day-to-day grind?
For me, it comes down to three key practices: clarity, alignment, and accountability.
- Clarity: Every decision we make at Icelaven starts with our “why.” Why does this investment, project, or partnership matter? Does it align with our mission to help others and to create purposeful investment opportunities that provide meaningful solutions? This clarity helps us filter out distractions and focus on work that truly matters.
- Alignment: It’s one thing to write a vision statement; it’s another to live it. As a company who uses EOS™, we strive to live out our core values in how we treat our clients, partners, and team members. Whether that’s through personalized support for families in our charter schools or empowering our IT company to better serve their clients, alignment keeps our work authentic.
- Accountability: Finally, we build systems to measure impact, not just financial performance. In our schools, that means looking at student success stories, graduation rates, and parent satisfaction. In other companies in our portfolio, we assess whether we’re delivering value that makes a tangible difference. Accountability tied to our EOS Scorecard (KPIs) ensures that we’re not just talking about our mission but delivering on it.
These practices allow us to approach every day with a sense of purpose. They help us stay the course, even when challenges arise, and they remind us why our work matters.
If you’re leading a team, investing in a business, or simply reflecting on your own career, I encourage you to revisit your mission regularly. When clarity, alignment, and accountability become part of your daily operations, purpose moves from being an abstract idea to a lived reality.
